One Little Heart is a unique endeavour established in 2014 to create different avenues to raise money for multiple charities. The main focus now is raising money for Heart of the Nation (HotN), through sales of “What Paramedics Do”. HotN help fund more publicly available Automated External Defibrillators in communities.
Let us tell you a story about our journey
Hello! I am Amy Gomes (neé Craike) and I am a Critical Care Paramedic, currently based in Brisbane but I have had the pleasure of working at many locations across Queensland. I started my paramedic journey in 2008 and am so unbelievably grateful for everything I have learnt and achieved in that time. I have special interests in Palliative Care, End of Life Law, Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection (SCAD), Paramedic Education and student mentoring.
Shortly after my son was born, I wrote a book for my husband to read with my son, all about Paramedics. My husband is also a Paramedic and one of the main characters in the book – only fair since he was the original inspiration! We have since added our daughter to the mix and along with our two gorgeous pups, we live a happy, busy life close to our extended family in Brisbane.
Initially I attempted to illustrate the book myself, but I had grossly underestimated my lack of artistic talent and so the book stalled. For Christmas in 2022, my husband bought me a voucher for a course on “How to Self-Publish a Children’s Book” by Little Ivory Haus. I cannot express how simple Laura made the whole process to understand. I never would have come this far without her course and I am eternally grateful for her support to take the leap! From her info about how to find an illustrator, to her amazing storyboard template, printing information, and breakdown of the many aspects of self-publishing! What a wonderful thing you do for others Laura and what a beautiful legacy to help bring more stories into this world.
Things have definitely snowballed since I completed the course… My marketing strategy is something I think about even in my dreams – but, that is how so many of my ideas develop into something beautiful! Another special aspect of this journey has been meeting my illustrator, Pia Leo. Pia is one of the most amazing, creative, wonderful humans I have ever had the pleasure of working with and her ability to put my ideas to paper has been the most incredible experience.
